CHESTER, PA – On the road to open the season, the Penn State Abington men's soccer team traveled to Widener University, but where shut out by the Pride 3-0 on Friday evening.
The Nittany Lions tested the keeper, forcing eight saves from Widener's Jordan Katz.
Wideners Zach Jankauskas opened his account early in the 10
th minute after he sliced a shot past keeper who came off his line. The Nittany Lions came close in the 23
rd minute after
Hernando Villamil (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
Jose Palomeque (Upper Dublin, Pa.) forced back-to-back saves only seconds apart. The Pride came away unscathed and earned another goal after Doug Kunkle redirected a shot off the free kick into the top right.
Right out of the gate the Nittany Lions forced the Prides' goalkeeper to make a save after
Chris Van Pelt (Doylestown, Pa.) headed a corner that was saved by Kratz. Widener put away the game late in the second half with a goal in the 78
th minute.
The Nittany Lions will return home to face off against Gwynedd Mercy tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
