Nittany Lions Blanked by Widener, 3-0

CHESTER, PA – On the road to open the season, the Penn State Abington men's soccer team traveled to Widener University, but where shut out by the Pride 3-0 on Friday evening.
The Nittany Lions tested the keeper, forcing eight saves from Widener's Jordan Katz.

Wideners Zach Jankauskas opened his account early in the 10th minute after he sliced a shot past keeper who came off his line. The Nittany Lions came close in the 23rd minute after Hernando Villamil (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Jose Palomeque (Upper Dublin, Pa.) forced back-to-back saves only seconds apart. The Pride came away unscathed and earned another goal after Doug Kunkle redirected a shot off the free kick into the top right.

Right out of the gate the Nittany Lions forced the Prides' goalkeeper to make a save after Chris Van Pelt (Doylestown, Pa.) headed a corner that was saved by Kratz. Widener put away the game late in the second half with a goal in the 78th minute.

The Nittany Lions will return home to face off against Gwynedd Mercy tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
