ABINGTON, Pa. –Senior
Marco Martins (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) notched his first goal of the season as the Penn State Abington men's soccer team earned a 3-1 win over Wesley College on Wednesday afternoon. After the win, the men improve to 2-3 for the season.
Senior
Chris Van Pelt (Doylestown, Pa.) opened his account for the season in the sixth minute when he followed up a lined shot from
Hernando Villamil (Philadelphia, Pa.), and tucked it in off after it bounced off the keepers gloves. Later in the half, freshman Jose Pelomeque (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored a stunner, when he curled a shot into the top left corner to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of action. The Wolverines pulled one back when Nicolas Hood curled in a shot inside the left post, but the Nittany Lions held the 2-1 advantage at the break.
The Wolverines pressed the Nittany Lions in the second half, trying to get the tying goal, but the Nittany Lions put the game out of reach in the 85
th minute when junior
Dmitri Bourlako (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) won a header, and Martins finished his shot.
Abington looks to continue its good form when they travel to Neumann on Saturday afternoon, with game time slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
