ABINGTON, Pa. – Two early goals for the Penn State Abington men's soccer team helped to hold off Bryn Athyn in a 2-1 win on Wednesday afternoon. The Nittany Lions improve to 4-5 for the year and remain unbeaten in the conference at 2-0.
Marco Martins (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) kicked off the scoring with one of the quickest goals in Nittany Lions history, with only 46 seconds off the clock the senior forward slotted in a perfect cross from sophomore
Chris Schlegel (Philadelphia, Pa.).  With a 1-0 lead over their rivals the Nittany Lions kept momentum with another goal only a minute later. Martins held up the ball in the middle and placed his pass right to
Andrew Costa (Philadelphia, Pa.) for a tap in at the far post.
At the 11 minute mark the Lions cut lead with a set piece. Â The Lions Kevin Conroy headed in his shot to the back post to cut the lead to 2-1. Â The stifling Nittany Lions defense held Bryn Athyn to only 2 shots for the rest of the period, and sophomore goalkeeper
Ty Morris (Flemington, NJ) did his part to keep the Lions out of the net.
In a physical second half neither team could find the back of the net, but the Nittany Lions held firm to get their second win in the conference.
Abington will be on the road this weekend when they travel to Rutgers-Camden in their final nonconference match of the year. The Nittany Lions will face Rutgers Camden this Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
