ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team picked up another big conference win over their crosstown rivals Bryn Athyn in a 68-48 win for the Nittany Lions on Wednesday night. Abington improves to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference and sits in second place in the NEAC South standings.
Senior
Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, PA) led the way with 23 points and right behind junior
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA) earned 22 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double.
In the first quarter the Nittany Lions held a slim lead over Bryn Athyn thanks to a strong defensive effort and only allowed nine points in 10 minutes of action. A huge second quarter from Rodriguez helped to kick start the Nittany Lions offense, as she scored 11 of her 22 points in the game. Bryn Athyn started to heat up, but still trailed by nine at the break.
Sloppy play in the third quarter kept both teams in check, with each team only able to score 11 points. In the fourth quarter Marrero helped Abington pull away with her clutch shooting from the floor and from behind the arc, to give the Nittany Lions their eighth win of the season.
Next the Nittany Lions will host Keuka College this Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
