Women's Basketball Drops to Keuka, 66-55

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team hosted NEAC North power Keuka College, but couldn't upset the visitors in a 66-55 loss to the Wolves on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions drop to 8-5 after the loss and 3-2 in the conference.

Junior guard Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA) led the offense with 19 points, and senior center Grace Dewey (Falls Church, Va.) did the dirty work on the boards with another double-double.  In her 32 minutes on the court she notched 11 points and scooped 13 rebounds for the day.

In a tight contested first quarter the Wolves jumped out to an early lead, but the Nittany Lions responded when senior guard Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, PA) knocked down her shot from downtown to give Abington its first lead of the game. The Nittany Lions held the advantage until the final two minutes of action when Keuka took the lead back after earning gritty points in the paint.

In the second quarter both teams struggled offensively with 14 total turnovers. Keuka maintained their lead until Marrero tied the game with her layup in the paint.  Moments later the Wolves took back the lead with two buckets, and held on until halftime.

From behind the arc, Dewey hit a clutch three-ball to bring the Nittany Lions within two points in the third quarter. The Wolves began to push the tempo and their lead to double digits off a few fast break buckets. Two buckets by Marrero brought the game to within nine points before the buzzer to end the period.

Freshman Iman Richmond (Chicago, IL) hit a huge three-ball right out of the game in the fourth quarter to kick start the Nittany Lions offense.  Keuka responded with phenomenal shots from behind the arc, to hold off the Nittany Lions rally.

The Nittany Lions will be back in action tomorrow when they host Wells College at noon.
