Nittany Lions Hold Off Bryn Athyn, 74-70

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – In a hotly contested game against their cross town rivals, the Penn State Abington men's basketball pulled off the series sweep with a 74-70 win over Bryn Athyn Wednesday night. The Nittany Lions pick up another key conference win and improve to 6-8 overall and 4-3 in the NEAC.

Freshman Pernell Ghee (Germantown, PA) led the pack with his 15 points while he shot 50 percent from the floor. Right behind sophomores Quinn DeNofa (Philadelphia, PA) and Terrance Reese (Philadelphia, PA) added 13 and 12 points respectively.

In the first half, the Lions and Nittany Lions traded baskets, with neither team able to gain much of an advantage.  Sophomore John Ryan (Warminster, PA) drained his shot from three to help the Nittany Lions take their largest lead of the game, with a 26-18 margin over their rivals. Bryn Athyn shifted momentum on a 14-6 run aided by tough points in the paint to take the lead before the half.

The Lions lead over Abington quickly faded and the Nittany Lions regained the lead thanks to a huge three pointer by Ghee to kick off the half. Abington continued to hold a small advantage thanks to clutch free throw shooting from Reese that gave Abington a 55-45 with 12 minutes remaining.  Bryn Athyn tried to rally in the second half from their double-digit deficit, but Abington answered their shots. With three minutes remaining, the Lions finally tied the game and took a three point lead over Abington. Two huge layups from Reese and Ghee in the final seconds of the game helped the Nittany Lions earn the series sweep.

The Nittany Lions will be off until next Tuesday when they will host their White Out game against Penn State Berks at 6:00 p.m.
