ABINGTON, PA.- The Penn State Abington women's soccer team hosted Cairn University on Wednesday evening. After an exciting double over time, the Nittany Lions tied the Highlanders 3-3.
Cairn was the first team to score 13 minutes into the first half. However, Freshman
Taylor Perkowski (Collingswood, NJ)answered back when she was double teamed in the top left of the box, and was able to kick a ball left footed into the corner of the net to tie the game 1-1. She remained unstoppable 6 minutes later when she shot an unbelievable high kick from 20 yards out to put the Nittany Lions up 2-1 shortly before half time. The Highlanders scored five minutes before the halftime buzzer went off.
At the 77th minute mark, Perkowski shot a corner kick that landed perfectly on the head ofÂ
Pamela Blesi (Philadelphia, PA). Blesi was able to head the ball past the goal keeper to put Abington up 3-2. Cairn showed fight by kicking a ball from 25 yards out in the final seconds of the second half to force an overtime.Â
After two over times, neither team was able to score. Freshman
Mary Kate Smith (Oreland, PA) stepped up for Abington when senior goal keeper
Samantha Friend was taken out after the first half due to injury. Smith had 7 saves in her first collegiate appearance as a goal keeper.
Abington will host NEAC opponent Keuka College on Saturday October 13th at 1pm for their annual Pink Game, honoring breast cancer awareness month.
