UTICA, NY – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball traveled to SUNY Poly for a pair of matches, but came away empty handed in a 3-2 loss to SUNY Poly and a 3-0 shutout against SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions fall to 5-20 for the season, and 1-8 in the conference.
Freshman
Samantha Link (Southampton, PA) put up a career high of 11 kills against the Fighting Tigers, while senior
Andia Anderson (Philadelphia, PA) led the Nittany Lions with 26 kills for the day.
Junior
Cortney Schwar (Annandale, NJ) moved into second all-time in assists after a monster 58 assists between both matches. Her total of 977 assists is only 71 shy of a program record.
In the first match of the day SUNY Poly earned the first point with a 25-12 win, but Abington responded in the second set with a 25-17 decision to tie the match 1-1. Abington built off the second set with another win (25-19) to take the 2-1 lead. The hosts rallied to a 25-15 win in the fourth set to force the fifth set. In the final set the Nittany Lions fell behind early, and couldn't make up the ground in a heartbreaking 15-12 loss.
The Nittany Lions struggled in the second match of the day with a 25-16 loss in the first set, a 25-20 defeat in the second set. Abington fought hard to stay in the match in the third set but fell 25-23.
Abington will return home for their Dig Pink match and will honor Anderson for her outstanding career on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
