Senior's Shine in Rout Against Wilson

ABINGTON, Pa – On a picture perfect Senior Day, the Penn State Abington women's basketball team came out on top against the Wilson College Phoenix 73-55. The Nittany Lions held their ground and dominated the game throughout. The team improved their record to 8-6 in the NEAC conference and 13-9 overall.

Before the game, Senior Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, PA) and Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, PA) were honored for their years of commitment to the program.

Sophomore Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA) continued her spectacular season as she scored 22 points this Saturday afternoon for the Nittany Lions. Both seniors shined on their big day as Keyes landed 15 points, while Marrero notched 13 points. Grace Dewey (Falls Church, Va.) had a dominant performance around the basket as she landed a double-double with 14 points and 16 total rebounds.

In this first quarter, Marrero passed the ball through two Wilson players that resulted in a lay-up by Rodriguez. After that play, Abington went on a 10-2  which gave them an 11 point lead at the end of the first quarter.

During the second quarter, Marrero made a big shot from underneath the basket that extended Abington's lead. Not long afterward, Iman Richmond (Chicago, IL) scored a big three that gave the Nittany Lions a 15 points advantage and control of the game going into the break.

As the second half got underway, Abington continued their dominating performance. Despite the Phoenix effort to rally, Abington's defense came up big several times.

Dewey denied a Phoniex player from scoring in the paint with a big-time block. Wilson attempted to high press Abington and push the tempo, however the Lions remained stout and came out victorious at the end 73-55 over Wilson.

The Nittany Lions will be back on action Wednesday night as they host Lancaster Bible College 8:00 p.m. in their Pink Game.
