WASHINGTON DC – The Penn State Abington Women's Basketball Team were unable to come out on top in the last regular game of the season. Despite the lost, the Lions have already clinched a place in the NEAC tournament. Their record stands at 8-8 in the conference and 13-11 overall.
Junior
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA) led the Nittany Lions with 20 points this Saturday afternoon. Senior
Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, PA) notched 16 points for the game. Senior
Grace Dewey (Falls Church, Va.) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds for the team.
The first quarter was evenly contested. Both teams traded baskets with neither team able to pull away. During the quarter, Rodriguez stole the ball from a Gallaudet player. This resulted in a lay-up by Freshman
Iman Richmond (Chicago, IL) that gave Abington a four points lead.
The second quarter had a similar storyline to the first. Both teams were unable to pull away and the game was tight and competitive. Towards the end of half, Richmond came up big for the Nittany Lions when she landed a layup in the paint, which gave them the lead.
During the third quarter, there were a total of seven lead changes. It seems like this game would go down to the wire, however Gallaudet would take the lead near the end of the game and hold on to it. Abington were unable to rally and Gallaudet won the game.
The Nittany Lions next game will be on Tuesday in the NEAC Tournament with time and location to be determined.
