MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Penn State Abington softball team opened their season today, but couldn't get a win with a 9-2 loss to Hilbert, and a 11-1 defeat to Gwynedd Mercy on Monday.

Despite the losses, senior Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.) had a terrific showing, going 5-of-6 at the plate for the day. The senior from Churchville rocked three doubles and knocked in all three of the Nittany Lions runs.

In game one the Nittany Lions scored off a double to left field from Dougherty in the fifth inning, and in game two she again drove in another run in the third inning.

The Nittany Lions will have another two games tomorrow when they face Randolph College at 1:30 p.m. and Medaille College at 3:30 p.m.
