WASHINGTON, DC – On the road down in Washington DC, the Penn State Abington baseball team picked up two big wins against Gallaudet University on Sunday afternoon.  The Nittany Lions held on to an 8-5 win in game one, and exploded to a 19-3 victory over the Bison in game two. After the pair of wins, the Nittany Lions improve to 11-7 for the season.
Sophomore
Stevie Stevenson (Westampton, NJ) had a fantastic day at the plate with six RBIs, and two triples. Freshman
Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA) added a double, and a triple between both games. On the mound
Pat McDonald (North Wales, PA) went the full nine innings in game two, only surrendering three runs and striking out two batters.
In game one the Nittany Lions got off to a fast start with four runs in the first inning. Back-to-back doubles from McCarty and
Tyler DiPatri (Pedricktown, NJ) kicked off the scoring in the first inning. The Bison responded in the bottom half of the inning with three runs of their own.
In the fourth and fifth inning Abington took advantage of multiple fielding errors by Gallaudet to cushion their lead.
The Bison threatened the Nittany Lions lead in the sixth inning with two runs, but Abington was able to hold off the hosts for the win.
Gallaudet started off game two with a run in the second and third inning, but the Nittany Lions bats woke up in the third inning with eight runs. Abington earned five consecutive hits to start the inning, highlighted by a triple from
Paul Woodley (Levittown, PA). Stevenson drove in three runs with his triple to right center field, and
Kyle Marshall (Fairless Hills, PA) drove him home with a double down the line.
Again Abington took advantage of the Bison's pitching mistakes with an RBI walk from Dipatri in the fifth inning.
In the sixth inning Stevenson again smashed the first pitch to right center field for another triple to drive in a run.
Abington capped off the game in the ninth inning with seven runs, including three RBI walks, and double from
Jaden Himmelreich (Temple, PA).
The Nittany Lions return home on Wednesday to face non-conference opponent John Jay College at 3:30 p.m.
