READING, PA – In game of the day the Penn State Abington baseball team rallied to a 9-7 win against Keuka College, but made an early exit after a 9-4 loss to Penn College later in the day. Abington wraps up it season with a record breaking 25 wins.
The Wolves took a 4-0 lead in the first game, but Abington broke their scoring drought in the fifth inning. Freshman
Joseph Rizzo (Gibbstown, NJ) drove in the first run of the day with his sacrifice fly to right field, and
Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA) added another with his single through the left side.
In the sixth inning the Wolves held a 5-2 lead, but momentum shifted in the Nittany Lions favor in the bottom of the inning.Â
Julio Aira IV (Miami Fla.) notched an RBI single to the shortstop, and the Nittany Lions took advantage of two errors by Keuka College to tie the game. At the plate
Brett Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) put the go ahead run past the plate with his single.
After seven innings the Wolves head a slim 7-6 advantage, but Abington rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning when Rizzo tied the game with his RBI single. With two runners in scoring position and two outs, McCarty smashed his pitch for the game winning RBI double to knock the Wolves out of the NEAC Tournament.
In game two the Nittany Lions were first on the board with an RBI single from
Stevie Stevenson (Westampton, NJ) out to right field. Penn College scored the next three runs before Stevenson would again drive in another run with his RBI single to center field.
In the sixth inning the Wildcats held a 4-2 advantage, but Stevenson got onto base and drove in a run with the squeeze play. Later in the inning Rizzo tied the game 4-4, but the Wildcats would go on to score the next five runs to knock Abington out of the NEAC Tournament.
