PHOENIXVILLE, PA - After dropping their opening tri-match the Nittany Lions bounced back with two big wins at Valley Forge on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions shut out Centenary in the first match with a 3-0 win, and earned a thrilling 3-2 win over Valley Forge to push them to 2-2 for the season.
Elizabeth Erhart (Ciudad de Panama, Panama) had a fantastic day serving with 13 aces between both games. Erhart and
Lauren O'Keeffe (Yardley, PA) led the attack for the Nittany Lions with 13 kills each. Defensively
Kaitlyn Carey-Miller (Philadelphia, PA) finished with 52 digs including 36 against the Patriots.
In game one Abington advanced with ease after a 25-11, win in the first and battled to a 25-18 win in the second set. The Nittany Lions closed out the match with a 25-11 win in the final set over Centenary.
Abington struggled to start the second match with a 25-16 loss in the first set, but in the next set the Nittany Lions gutted out a 25-21 win to tie the match. Valley Forge struck back with a 25-22 decision over the Nittany Lions giving them a 2-1 advantage going into the fourth set. A late run of points for the Nittany Lions helped them to force a fifth set in a 25-17 win over the Patriots. Abington grabbed the lead early in the fifth and final set and held off the hosts to earn their second win of the season.
Abington returns home when they host Gywnedd Mercy on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
