BRYN ATHYN, PA- The Penn State Abington women's soccer team traveled to Bryn Athyn College, where they forced their opponent into an exciting double overtime. After 2.5-hours of intense play, Abington gained their first tie of the season to improve their record to 0-1-1.
Abington was down 1-0 heading into halftime. Until the team sparked a fire in the second half scoring 3 goals. Sophmore
Teresa Barker (Warminster, PA) scored the Nittany Lions first goal of the entire season after a corner kick that dropped into the box and Barker tapped it past the goal keeper. She was assisted by teammates
Airii Massey (Fredricksburg, VA) and
Taylor Perkowski (Collingswood, NJ). Bryn Athyn answered back quickly scoring a goal moments after the Nittany Lions, to take a 2-1 lead. Just shy of the 70-minute mark, the Bryn Athyn Lions scored once again, increasing their lead to 3-1.
Showing determination and fight, the Nittany Lions scored in the last 15 minutes of the game. Junior
Haley Miller (Hatfield, PA) scored her first goal of the season unassisted. Followed by senior
Sarah Eisele (Langhorne, PA) who shot from the corner of the penalty box, sailing a goal into the back of the net to tie the game 3-3.
The match proceeded into double overtime, but neither teams were able to score. Penn State Abington outshot Bryn Athyn 18-17. Senior
Samantha Friend had a solid performance in between the posts, saving 7 out of the 10 shots on goal by Bryn Athyn.
The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn College on Saturday September 8 for a 1:00 p.m. match.
