Nittany Lions Hold On Against Gallaudet, 79-75

WASHINGTON, DC – Sophomores Pernell Ghee (Germantown, PA) and Jay Fitzgerald (Philadelphia, PA) put up career high numbers to lead the Nittany Lions to a crucial 79-75 over Gallaudet University on Wednesday night. With the win the Nittany Lions improve to 8-7 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Ghee was the top scorer with 28 points and right behind Fitzgerald netted 21 points in the win.

In the first half the Nittany Lions and Bison couldn't get much separation, but Ghee had the hot hand with eight minutes left to go. The sophomore knocked down his jump shot, got down the court for a fast break layup and drained his three-ball for a seven point swing.  The Bison rallied ahead before the end of the half and held a 35-33 lead at the break.

Gallaudet started out the second half on a 12-6 run and almost pushed their lead to double-digits.  The hosts held a slim advantage throughout the half, but the Bison let the Nittany Lions creep back into the game by getting into foul trouble.  Fitzgerald hit a clutch three in the final minutes of the game to tie the game 67-67. In the final minutes of action Charles Ervin (Quakertown, PA) and Bobby Olsen (Florida, NY) earned clutch baskets to hold on to the win.

Abington will return home for a critical conference game against Lancaster Bible on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
