Women's Basketball Cruises Past Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Behind a 33 point performance from senior Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA), the Penn State Abington women's basketball team cruised past Penn College 92-61 on Wednesday night.  After the win the Nittany Lions improve to 9-7 overall and 6-2 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Junior point guard Sydney Barrow (Philadelphia, PA) also put in an incredible performance with the first triple-double of the season. Barrow finished with 11 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in the dominate win.  Freshman Lacy MacLachlin (Boyertown, PA) earned a career high 17 points and went 5-of-10 from behind the arc.

In the high scoring first period, the Nittany Lions held a commanding lead thanks to 13 points by Rodriguez. Penn College tried to cut the lead, but were unable to thanks to clutch shooting from the floor. The Wildcats came within striking distance, but Abington would pull away and held a 27-18 advantage after the first period.

The Nittany Lions kept their pace and pushed their lead to double-digits after Rodriguez forced a turnover, and took the ball for the easy fast-break layup. By the end of the half, the Nittany Lions almost held a 20 point lead over the hosts up 51-34 at the break.

Abington clamped down in the third period and held the Wildcats to only six points in the quarter. Thanks to a big quarter from Laquana Nagbe (Philadelphia, PA), the Nittany Lions outscored the Wildcats 23-6 with the game firmly in their control.

In the fourth quarter Abington closed out the game with the 30 point margin of victory, the biggest of the season.
The Nittany Lions will hit the road when they travel to Wells College this Saturday afternoon, with tip-off slated for 1:00 p.m.
