AURORA, NY – Four Nittany Lions hit double digits for the Penn State Abington women's basketball team in their 62-52 win at Wells College on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions improve to 10-7 for the season and 7-2 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
Senior guard
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA) led the Nittany Lions with 20 points, while
Laquana Nagbe (Philadelphia, PA) and
Iman Richmond (Chicago, IL) both recorded double-doubles for Abington. Nagbe finished next behind Rodriguez with 14 points and scooped 14 rebounds, and Richmond completed her double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.
Wells started off with the hot hand outscoring the Nittany Lions 15-7 in the first period. The Nittany Lions struggled in the quarter making their first shot with 3:42 left on the clock. Turnovers didn't help Abington with only three shots, and four turnovers in the period.
Rodriguez kicked off the second period draining a shot from downtown to shift momentum in their favor. The Nittany Lions were shooting well in the second quarter, but Wells kept pace and held the lead going into the break. Although the Nittany Lions only trailed 22-20 at the half.
Coming out of the break the Nittany Lions took the lead quickly with consecutive buckets in the first minute of action. Some clutch shooting from behind the arc from the Express helped them regain the lead, but the Nittany Lions kept the game close after a big quarter from Rodriguez.
Down 40-39 in the fourth quarter, the Nittany Lions started the period hot with a huge three-ball from Richmond. Momentum swung in the Nittany Lions favor with a huge 11-1 run in the first three minutes of the period. The 23 point period for the Nittany Lions were enough to hold off the Express for their tenth win of the season.
The Nittany Lions will continue on the road when they travel to Penn State Berks on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
