AURORA, NY – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team traveled to Wells College and came away with a 68-59 win on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions improve to 10-8 overall and 7-2 in the conference.
Junior
Bobby Olsen (Florida, NY) led the Nittany Lions again with 15 points and scooped up seven rebounds for the afternoon.
The Nittany Lions started the game off with back-to-back shots from downtown by Junior
John Ryan (Warminster, PA) and freshman
Charles Ervin (Quakertown, PA), and Olsen capped it off with a dunk to take the early lead. Abington held the lead until 14:10, when the Express pulled ahead 11-10 after their layup. The lead would change hands a few times over a five minute span. In the final ten minutes of the half the Nittany Lions dominated the paint with a 16-3 run to end the period.Â
After a block from Olsen
Pernell Ghee (Germantown, PA) took it up the court and drained his shot to push the Nittany Lions lead to 15 points in the opening minutes of the second half. Abington held the lead, but foul trouble helped the Express creep back into the game. With 10:16 left in the game, the Express hit four free-throws to cut the lead to 46-44. The Nittany Lions continued to pound the paint and found themselves back ahead 58-47 with only six minutes left. In the final minutes the Nittany Lions hit clutch free-throws to keep the game out of reach for the Express.
The Nittany Lions will look to continue their streak when they travel to Penn State Berks on Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m.
