CAMDEN, NJ. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team took an early lead, looking to stun the host Rutgers Camden, but the Nittany Lions couldn't hold on in a 3-2 loss on Wednesday night. The Nittany Lions fall to 8-5 overall for the season.
The Nittany Lions went toe-to-toe with the NJAC power and drew blood first with a goal in the 24
th minute. A beautiful cross from
Jose Palomeque found the head of
Hernando Villamil where he put it in the back of the net. In the 31
st minute the Scarlet Raptors standout Skyler Diggs tied the game with a header of his own. Camden pressed the Nittany Lions in the first half forcing five saves from goalkeeper
Trent Morris but the freshman kept the Nittany Lions tied at the break.
In the second half Diggs put the Scarlet Raptors ahead with his second goal of the game, but the Nittany Lions didn't fold. Minutes later, Villamil netted his 14
th goal of the season and brought Abington level with Rutgers Camden. Abington pushed for the game winner with 11 shots in the second half, but it would be Rutgers Camden who would find the back of the net after Diggs finished the hat-trick.
Abington will continue on the road when they travel to Keuka College for a crucial conference match at 1:00 p.m.
