Nittany Lions Fall to Neumann, 57-55

ALLENTOWN, PA. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team faced off against Neumann University in the consolation round of the Scotty Wood tournament, but the Nittany Lions dropped a heartbreaking 57-55 loss to the Knights on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions fall to 1-3 after the loss.

For the second time this season the Nittany Lions drop a heartbreaker to the Knights after falling to Neumann 59-56 earlier in the week.

Sophomore Mikayla Noel-Cohen led the way for the Nittany Lions with 18 points and six rebounds. On the boards Ashya Gaddy scooped 13 rebounds. For her outsanding game Noel-Cohen was named to the All-Tournament team after finishing with 25 points in both games.

The Nittany Lions opened the first quarter on a quick -2 run in the first three minutes of action.  The Knights shifted momentum with a pair of three balls taking a 10-9 lead only minutes later. In the back and forth first quarter the Nittany Lions and Knights traded blows, but Abington led at the end of the first period after a pair of free throws from Iman Richmond.

In the second period the lead changed hands within the first minute of action, but Abington pulled ahead by seven points thanks to clutch shooting.  Again the Knights   tied the game at the five minute mark after a 7-0 run.  Neither team could pull ahead with each team takin the lead by only a few points, but it was the Knights that held a 32-31 lead at the break.

Abington struggled shooting in the third quarter only hitting 29% which allowed the Knights to pull ahead but still within striking distance.  In the fourth quarter the Nittany Lions trailed until Laquana Nagbe drained a three from downtown to tie the game 46-46 with 8:40 left to play.  The Knights pulled ahead but the Nittany Lions did well to earn earn fouls and hit their shots to keep it close.   Down 57-55 and having the final possession, the Nittany Lions had a chance to win but couldn't convert.

Abington will return home after the break and host Delaware Valley on Wednesday December 4th at 6:00 p.m.
