Women's Basketball Defeats Del Val, 72-64

ABINGTON, PA- The Penn State Abington women's basketball team snapped their three game losing streak tonight by picking up a 72-64 win over Delaware Valley University. The Nittany Lions improve to 2-3 on the season.

Leading the way for Abington were senior duo Sydney Barrow (Philadelphia, PA) and Laquana Nagbe (Philadelphia, PA) who each drained 12 points for the Nittany Lions. Sophomore Lacy MacLachlin (Boyertown, PA)joined the double-digit club with her season high of 11 points and shooting 2-4 from behind the arc. Iman Richmond (Chicago, IL) contributed 8 points with lights out defense and four monstrous blocks.

Abington got off to a slow first quarter only making 28% of their field goals while the Aggies were almost doubling with 42%, giving them an early five-point advantage. The Nittany Lions got back on track in the second quarter with timely shooting and draining six of ten field goals.

The energy came alive in the second half for Abington after they defensively forced Del Val to turn the ball over twice in two possessions. Iman Richmond then drained a crowd standing three to put Abington back on board 41-41. MacLachlin then reciprocated from behind the arc to get the crowd once again on their feet, giving Abington a 47-45 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. The Nittany Lions jumped out the gate hot with an eight-point lead after scoring four baskets in the paint off fast breaks. Abington held a 15 point lead with three minutes to play, and was able to keep their momentum going to pick up the 72-64 victory.
