HUNTINGDON, PA. - A huge game from junior
Pernell Ghee pushed the Nittany Lions to 86-73 win over Houghton College in the consolation game of the Doc Greene Tournament on Saturday afternoon. After the win the Nittany Lions improve to 6-2 for the season.
Ghee led the Nittany Lions with 24 points eight rebounds and five steals and for his efforts the junior guard earned All-Tournament Team.
Abington came out of the gate hot on a 10-3 run capped off by a three-ball from
Jay Fitzgerald. The Nittany Lions continued their dominance in the first half pushing the lead to 27-9 at the midpoint of the first half. Late into the first half, the Nittany Lions went up by 20 points over the Highlanders after a shot from
Brian Randolph III from behind the arc. The Nittany Lions walked into the break with a comfortable lead over the highlanders 52-35.
The Highlanders tried to cut the lead, in the first few minutes of action but back-to-back three pointers from
Amir Hill and
Lexuus Fasce. Houghton chipped away at the lead, and came within 10 points with seven minutes remaining in the game, but the Nittany Lions continued to drain shots from behind the arc to make it hard for the Highlanders to gain momentum. The Highlanders wouldn't go down without a fight and again came within six points with only minutes remaining. Clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch kept the Nittany Lions in front and clinched the win.
The Nittany Lions will return to action after the New Year when they host Gwynedd Mercy on Friday January 3
rd starting at 6:00 p.m.
