ABINGTON, PA. – After rescheduling the game due to a power outage, the Penn State Abington men's basketball team were electric on the court with a 91-66 win over the College of Saint Elizabeth on Thursday night.
The Nittany Lions improve to 12-12 overall and pick up a crucial conference win, with a 9-6 record in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
Sophomore
Pernell Ghee (Germantown, PA) led the charge with 25 points nine rebounds and three steals. Right behind junior
John Ryan (Warminster, PA) netted 23 points and scooped seven boards.
The College of Saint Elizabeth opened up with a three-ball but freshman
Alex Salata III (Pottstown, PA) answered right back with a three of his own. The Eagles pulled ahead of the Nittany Lions, but Ghee responded with consecutive dunks to put the Nittany Lions up 14-10. Abington stayed ahead thanks to clutch shooting on the floor from Ryan. With only seven minutes remaining
Mohamed Mansaray (Philadelphia, PA) knocked down his three pointer to push the Nittany Lions lead to nine points. Abington continued to stay ahead by a few possessions, and Ryan put the Nittany Lions up 41-32 right before the break after his shot from behind the arc.
In the second half the Nittany Lions defense smothered the Eagles only allowing them to go 1-of-12 from three. Abington pushed their lead to double-digits thanks to a 16-4 run over a two-minute span. The Nittany Lions could not miss from the field hitting almost 60 percent of their shots which increased their lead to 20 points. Abington continued to press the Eagles who didn't have any answers on their way to the biggest win of the season.
Abington will be back in action when they travel to Lancaster Bible in a critical matchup to determine Conference Tournament seeding. The Chargers and Nittany Lions will tip-off on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
