GREENSBORO, NC. – The Penn State Abington baseball team held a 5-1 lead over Guilford College but couldn't hold off the Quakers in a 6-5 loss on Saturday afternoon. After the series the Nittany Lions fall to 0-2 for the season.
Sophomore
Jaden Himmelreich (Temple, PA) led the way for the Nittany Lions going 3-of-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while adding a double for the game.
With two on and one out in the second inning, Himmelreich opened the scoring with a sharp RBI single through the right side. Later in the Inning freshman
Bill Trimble (Yardley, PA) added another two runs with his single through the right side to give the Nittany Lions the 3-0 lead. Finally
Zach Morales (Barrington, NJ) knocked in the final run of the inning batting into a fielder's choice.
In the bottom half of the inning the Quakers put a run on the board with a sac fly, but Abington still led 4-1 after the inning.
Himmelreich stepped up to the plate in the third inning and rocketed an RBI double down the right field line to push the lead to 5-1.
Guilford chipped away at the lead in the seventh inning, and rallied in the eighth inning with four unanswered to tie the game 5-5 going into the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth the Quakers won the game 6-5 after a walk off single.
The Nittany Lions will look to rebound with another trip to North Carolina next weekend with their first game against Pfeiffer University next Friday evening at 4:00 p.m.
