UTICA, NY- The Penn State Abington women's basketball team traveled to SUNY Poly on Saturday afternoon, where they were defeated by the Wildcats 69-50.
Abington was the stronger team in the first half, minimizing Poly's offense to 6 points in the first quarter. However, Poly tripled Abington's total points in the second quarter, by outshooting the Nittany Lions 14-4. Heading into halftime, Abington trailed 15-20. The Nittany Lions could not keep up with the Wildcats offense, and SUNY Poly again doubled Abington's points in the fourth quarter, 32-16. Resulting to a final score of 69-50.
This was Abington's lowest scoring conference game of the season. The Nittany Lions fall to 8-5 in conference and 11-10 overall.
In tonight's perfromance, three Nittany Lions scored in double digits including
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA) with 16,
Laquana Nagbe 11, and
Sydney Barrow (Philadelphia, PA) with 10. Freshman
Wynter Bess (Philadelphia, PA) returned to the court after previous injury this season, and scored 5 points for Abington.
Abington will sleep in New York tonight, before heading to SUNY Poly's next door NEAC neighbor SUNY Cobleskill. The Nittany Lions and the Fighting Tigers will tip off tomorrow Feb. 10 at noon.
