MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Penn State Abington women's softball team opened their season down at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Monday afternoon. The Nittany Lions lost both games 3-0 and 4-2 on the day.
In the first game, against Grove City College, the Nittany Lions struggled offensively. As a team, Abington had 16 strikeouts in their 24 at bats. Sophomore
Stephanie Andreoli (Richboro, PA) had two pair of hits for the Nittany Lions, while senior
Becca Dougherty (Churchville, PA) had one.
In the second game, Abington faced their local neighbor Gwynedd Mercy University. The bats started off hot as leadoff batter
Samantha Friend (Southampton, PA) scorched a single back up the middle. Shortly after, Andreoli again came in clutch with an rbi double to give Abington the 1-0 lead in the first. Andreoli delivered one more in the third inning with an RBI single scoring Rhoades to make the score 2-0. Freshman
Ryann Rhoades (Philadelphia, PA) was 2 for 2 with a double and single. Abington was unable to push another run across the plate after the third inning.
Up next Abington will face King's College at 9:30am and Wentworth Institute of Technology at 11:30am to play their second day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.
