MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Penn State Abington women's softball team played their 3
rd day down at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic and have improved to 1-4 on the season.
The Nittany Lions faced nationally ranked No. 9 Coe College in game 1. Abington's defense gave up 4 unearned runs, allowing Coe to capitalize on Abington's 5 defensive errors. The Nittany Lions trailed 7-0 heading into the 7
th inning when freshman
Kate DePaul (Philadelphia, PA) earned her first RBI of the season, pushing
Madison Mulka (Philadelphia, PA) across the plate. Abington added one more run after

In game two, Abington earned their first win of the season when they defeated Waynesburg University 12-1. The Nittany Lions came out with a vengeance in the first inning by scoring 5 runs off of just four hits. The offense was powered by senior
Danielle Hebling (Warminster, Pa.) who smacked a triple to deep right center field that allowed
Ryann Rhoades (Philadelphia, PA), Dougherty, and Marshall to score. In the second and third inning, Abington took advantage on two errors made by the Yellow Jackets, to push two more runs expanding their lead to 7-0.
Freshman
Akia Marshall (Albuquerque, NM) got her second hit of the game when she roped a single to the outfield. Her teammates
Becca Dougherty (Churchville, PA) and
Stephanie Andreoli (Richboro, PA) followed her with back to back hits. Abington continued to pass the bat through their line up when Hebling again delivered a huge 2 run RBI single that gave Abington the 10-1 advantage. The Nittany Lions were able to get through their lineup and allow Marshall to earn her third and final hit of the game to close out the 12-1 win.
Abington will face the University of Mary Washington tomorrow at 9:30am, followed by Rivier College at 1:30pm.
