LANGHORNE, PA- The Penn State Abington women's softball team picked up two wins today on the road against Cairn University. The Nittany Lions improve to 12-15 on the season.
In game one, Abington and the Highlanders battled intensely through nine innings of play. Of those nine innings, seven of them were scoreless for both sides. It wasn't until the top of the eighth inning during international tie breaker, that the Nittany Lions scored their first run. With senior
Danielle Hebling (Warminster, Pa.) on second, freshman
Ryann Rhoades (Philadelphia, PA) laid down a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt to advance Hebling to third. Sophomore
Jackie McMenamin (Oreland, PA) roped a ball to right field to put Abington up 1-0. The Nittany Lions added two more runs in the following inning with an RBI double from sophomore
Stephanie Andreoli (Richboro, PA) and an RBI from
Akia Marshall for the 3-1 victory.
Eight of Abington's nine batters got a hit in game two. Despite leaving 10 runners on base, the Nittany Lions produced 15 hits and 11 rbis to take home an 11-6 win. Senior
Danielle Hebling had a perfect day at the plate by going 2 for 2 with two walks. Also leading the Nittany Lion offense was fellow senior teammate
Samantha Friend (Southampton, PA) who had 3 rbi's for Abington including a double and triple.
This weekend Abington will travel to NEAC opponent SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday for a 1:00pm doubleheader.
