Nittany Lions Split Doubleheader with the Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Penn State Abington baseball team traveled to Penn College for a double header and split the series with the Wildcats on Tuesday afternoon.  The Nittany Lions fell in game one 3-2, but responded with a 10-3 win to move to 16-14 for the season.

In game one, the Nittany Lions were on the board early when they capitalized on an error by the third baseman to take a 1-0 lead.  The Wildcats got a runner across the plate in the second inning off an error to tie the game, but Zach Morales (Barrington, NJ) drove in the go ahead run with his single to left field. Penn College tied the game in the fifth inning with a single to left field, and clinched the game in the eighth inning with an RBI single.

Penn College took an early lead in the first inning, but a two run double from Tyler DiPatri (Pedricktown, NJ) gave the Nittany Lions the lead. In the bottom half of the inning the Wildcats scored another two runs to take a 3-2 lead with a two run double of their own.  In the fifth inning Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA) broke the game wide open for the Nittany Lions by smashing his pitch for a three run home run. The Nittany Lions would go on to add another five runs in the seventh inning to clinch the game.

The Nittany Lions will finish their three game series with Penn College next week, but first will host a critical series with defending champions Penn State Berks on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
