Dougherty Sets New Record, Abington Takes Two From CSE

ABINGTON, PA- The Penn State Abington women's softball team picked up two huge NEAC wins today over the College of Saint Elizabeth. Senior Becca Dougherty (Churchville, PA) broke the Penn State Abington single season strike out record with 110 strikeouts and counting. Dougherty also carries the title of the All-Time Leader in career strikeouts in Penn State Abington history, which she set earlier this seson.

In game one, the Nittany Lions and the Eagles were scoreless heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Freshman Mary Kate Smith (Springfield, PA) started the rally for Abington with a single, and later stole second. Then, freshman Akia Marshall (Albuquerque, NM) delivered a moon shot over the left field fence to walk it off for the Nittany Lions with a 2-0 victory. This was Marshall's second homerun of the season.

Marshall's home run sparked Abington's team energy heading into game two. The Nittany Lions offense produced five runs off of seven hits. Sophomore Stephanie Andreoli (Richboro, PA) led the offense with three RBI's. Freshman Shayna Cuiffitelli (Horsham, PA) returned to the field today after previous injury and opened her collegiate career by going 2 for 3, and producing 2 RBIs. Abington stole a total of five bases today with two from Jackie McMenamin (Oreland, PA), and one each from Andreoli, Smith, and Samantha Friend (Southampton, PA).

Up next Abington will host NEAC opponent Penn College this Friday for a double header beginning at 3:00pm.
