Nittany Lions Take Two from Cobleskill

JENKINTOWN, PA. – Two golden pitching performances from Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA) and Darrien Mogel (Reading, PA) helped the Nittany Lions top SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions tamed the Fighting Tigers 7-1 in game one, and shut down the visitors 12-3 in the second game of the doubleheader.

McCarty's nine strikeouts in game one was a season high, and Mogel improved his record to a perfect 4-0 in game two.

The Nittany Lions opened the scoring in the first game with a big five run second inning. The Fighting Tigers loaded the bases and McCarty drew an RBI walk to start the scoring. Next up at the plate Paul Woodley (Levittown, PA) rocked his pitch for an RBI double to drive in two more runs.  Joseph Rizzo (Gibbstown, NJ) stepped up and earned a RBI single that drove in another two runs to finish up the scoring.  Two more runs in the sixth inning and a dominate pitching performance helped the Nittany Lions finish off the Fighting Tigers.

In game two Rizzo put in a dominate performance at the plate with four RBI's off two hits.  In the leadoff spot senior Brett Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) had at fantastic game with four runs, two hits, two RBIs and three walks in the big win. Abington scored in the first, second, fourth and fifth inning before the Fighting Tigers could get a run across the plate with the lead never in doubt.

The Nittany Lions will finish their three game series against the Fighting Tigers tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
