Softball Sweeps Wells

ABINGTON, P.A.- The Penn State Abington women's softball team remains undefeated in conference play, after picking up two wins over Wells College. Abington improves to a perfect 6-0 in conference.

In game one, Jackie McMenamin (Oreland, PA) forced a walk in the bottom of the third inning to start Abington's rally. Senior Samantha Friend (Southampton, PA) laid down a perfectly executed bunt to advance McMenamin to second base. Stephanie Andreoli (Richboro, PA) followed with a ball deep to center field , just shy of a glove to earn a RBI, and put Abington up 1-0. In the following inning, clutch singles from Akia Marshall (Albuquerque, NM), Kourtney Schneider (Ewing, NJ), and Kate DePaul (Philadelphia, PA) allowed Abington to score their second and final run.

The Nittany Lions had a ten hit parade in game two with their three seniors Sam Friend, Becca Dougherty (Churchville, PA), and Danielle Hebling (Warminster, Pa.) each going 2 for 4 at the plate. Wells College quickly got a 1-0 lead after the top of the 1st inning. Abington answered back in the bottom of the 2nd with four runs being produced from a double from Akia Marshall (Albuquerque, NM), single from Hebling, double from Rhoades, single from Schneider, and RBI from Jackie McMenamin, to give the Nittany Lions a 4-1 advantage.

Abington added three more to their lead in the bottom of the third with a stand up RBI triple from senior Danielle Hebling. Abington continued to chip away with two runs in the fourth, and one run in the sixth, to take home the 10-3 victory.

Up next Abington will host NEAC opponent Keuka College tomorrow for a double header beginning at 12:00pm.
