ABINGTON, PA- Despite dropping game one 2-0 against Keuka College, Abington had an impressive game two that resulted in a 8-1 victory. Abington's record now stands at 10-15 on the season and 6-1 in the NEAC.
The Nittany Lions struggled offensivley in game one with 8 strikeouts and five batters left on base. Abington only had 3 hits out of their 22 at bats.
Ryann Rhoades (Philadelphia, PA) and
Danielle Hebling (Warminster, Pa.) each contributed a hit for Abington, while freshman
Akia Marshall (Albuquerque, NM) recorded a double.
The bats came alive in game two for Abington. In the bottom of the first inning, Abington was able to score their first run of the day after a RBI double from
Akia Marshall, that scored Andreoli. The Nittany Lions added one more run in the bottom of the third inning when
Becca Dougherty (Churchville, PA) roped a triple to right field. Two batters later,
Danielle Hebling joined the triple train after driving in Dougherty from third for a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth back to back singles from Andreoli and Dougherty allowed Abington to put base runners into scoring position. Marshall once again delivered with a clutch 2 run RBI double to center field just shy of the fence. With a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, Abington added four more runs to take home the 8-1 victory.
