Nittany Lions Advance to NEAC Finals

AURORA, NY – In game four of the North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament the Penn State Abington baseball team faced off against Wells College and earned a tough 4-2 win over the Express on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Nittany Lions improve to 23-15, and will advance to game six of the tournament to face the winner of Wells College and Penn State Berks.

Sophomore Jaden Himmelreich (Temple, PA) improved his record to 5-1 in a complete game. At the plate Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA) led the way with two hits including one double with two runs scored. Better late than never, senior Brett Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) notched his first career home run to lift the Nittany Lions.

In the first inning the Express went yard over the left field wall to take a 1-0 lead, but Guaglionona responded with a leadoff home run to right field.  In the third inning Joseph Rizzo (Gibbstown, NJ) took advantage of an error which allowed the Nittany Lions to take a 2-1 lead.  Later in the fifth inning Bill Trimble (Yardley, PA) sliced his pitch toward first base for an RBI single. Up 3-1, Wells College responded in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI single to third. Abington extended the lead off another error, and Himmelreich closed out the game to push the Nittany Lions another step closer to their first North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.

The Nittany Lions will wait till tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. and face the winner of Penn State Berks and Wells College for a chance to win the championship.
