Nittany Lions Split Tri-Match

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.- The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team opened their 2019 season on the road at King's College. The Nittany Lions split the evening with a 3-0 win over Rosemont, and a 3-0 loss against the hosting Monarchs.
 
In the first match, Abington swept Rosemont 25-7, 25-14, and 25-15. Transfer sophomore Jenny McAnaney (Maple Glen, PA) led the Nittany Lions with 10 kills and 6 digs. Freshman Nakiyah Green (Philadelphia, PA) opened her collegiate career by forcing 9 kills and 2 blocks against the Ravens. Senior Cortney Schwar (Annandale, NJ) racked up 27 assists for Abington in both games.
 
Facing King's College, the Nittany Lions dropped three in a row  25-18, 25-19, and 25-22. For the first time in a Nittany Lion uniform, freshman Katharine Costello (New Hope, PA) collected 12 kills, 12 digs, and 2 blocks against the Monarchs. Abington's trio coaching staff consisting of Roy Watson, Geena Close, and Andia Anderson are off to an even 1-1 coaching career record at Penn State Abington. 
 
The Nittany Lions will be back in action tomorrow for their home opener against the University of Valley Forge beginning at 10:00am, followed by a 2:00pm match against Centenary University New Jersey.
