Box Score 2 ABINGTON, PA- The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team came out blazing during their home opener by sweeping Valley Forge University and Centenary University NJ. The Nittany Lions improve to 3-1 on the season.
In game one, Cortney Schwar (Annandale, NJ) snagged 23 assists to continue her double-digit streak from last night's matches. Freshman Katharine Costello (New Hope, PA) stayed hot as she forced 11 kills against the Patriots, while teammate Samantha Link (Southampton, PA) racked up 8. Abington earned their second win of the season with a 25-14, 25-12, and 25-17 decision.
Abington's rookies Jenny McAnaney (Maple Glen, PA) and Nakiyah Green (Philadelphia, PA) scorched five kills each contributing to the 25-13, 25-6, 25-7 sweep against the Cyclones. Freshman Gaby Shreve (Marshall, MI) dug up 11 balls for the Nittany Lions. As a team, Abington doubled their opponent in kills with 19 while Centenary only produced 9.
Up next Abington will host Gywnedd Mercy University on Wednesday September 4 for a 7:00pm match.
