ABINGTON, PA. - The Penn State Abington women's soccer team opened their season against cross-town rival Bryn Athyn, but the Nittany Lions fell 2-0 on Friday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions and Lions were almost equal in possession during the match with the visitors holding a slight 52-48 advantage. Sophomores
Allyson Holtz and
Mary Kate Smith led the attack with two shots on goal for each, but neither of them could find the back of the net.
Bryn Athyn broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Jissed
Rosero Alegria took a long shot that curled into the top corner of the net to open her account for the season.
Just before the end of the match Bryn Athyn doubled their lead with a goal put in off a corner kick by
Taylor DiJoseph.
Abington will look to rebound when they travel to Clark Summit University on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
