LANCASTER, PA – Facing off against Lancaster Bible in a rematch of the 2018 North Eastern Athletic Conference championship game, the Nittany Lions fell to the Chargers 2-1 on Friday afternoon. The Nittany Lions pick up their first conference loss since 2016 as they fall to 1-3 for the season.
The Nittany Lions led the chargers with 17 shots in the game and nine shots on target. The Chargers goalkeeper Jake Deterline had a fantastic game with eight saves.
Abington was first on the board in the 24
th minute of the game when
Sebastian Krysztofowicz picked up a loose ball in the box and fired it into the back of the net to give the Nittany Lions the 1-0 lead.
The Chargers answered in the 35
th minute when Kendric Yoder forced a great save from the Nittany Lions
Esteban Leon, but the deflected ball was put in moments later by Rusty Risteen for Lancaster Bible. Tied 1-1 before the break, the Chargers Chad Tolson put Lancaster Bible in front with only 28 seconds left on the clock to give the home team momentum.
In the second half the Nittany Lions turned up the pressure on the Chargers to get the tying goal, but Deterline made six saves to shut down the Nittany Lions.
Abington will look to rebound next Saturday when they host rival Penn State Berks at 1:00 p.m.
