ABINGTON, PA – Senior
Hernando Villamil netted his team leading fifth goal of the season in a 2-0 shutout of Penn State Berks on Saturday afternoon. Â The Nittany Lions improve to 2-3 for the season and 1-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
Abington dominated possession in the first half and fired 12 shots at the goalkeeper forcing three saves, but the hosts couldn't get on the score sheet in the first half.
In the second half Abington finally broke the deadlock in the 53
rd minute when
Hernando Villamil slotted a perfect ball from
Ed Worthington to give the hosts the 1-0 lead. With the goal Villamil edges closer to becoming the programs all-time leading scorer. Currently with 33 goals, Villamil is only two away from tying Elision Pajollari's program record of 35 goals.
Later in the half
Sebastian Krysztofowicz doubled the lead after taking advantage of a loose ball in the box and firing it past the keeper for his third goal of the season. Â After the second goal the game was never in doubt as the defense shut down Berks holding them to only four shots in the second half.
Abington will face off against conference newcomer Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
