ABINGTON, PA. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team hosted Gwynedd Mercy, but fell to the Griffins in a close 3-2 game on Wednesday afternoon. After the loss the Nittany Lions fall to 2-4 for the season.
The Nittany Lions were first on the board in the opening half when
Taylor Perkowski slotted a perfect pass through the defense for
Mary Kate Smith to finish to give the Nittany Lions the 1-0 lead. The Griffins answered later in the half with a goal in the 28
th minute. Only moments later the Griffins added another with a goal in the 29
th minute.
In the second half the Griffins added another goal to push the lead to 3-1. The Nittany Lions continued to press and earned a penalty kick late in the second half that was finished by
Allyson Holtz. Abington pressed in the final ten minutes of action but couldn't force overtime with a goal.
The Nittany Lions will look to rebound when they host Penn State Berks on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
