Abington Drops NEAC Opener to Harrisburg

ABINGTON, PA- The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team hosted Penn State Harrisburg for their first NEAC conference game of the season on Wednesday evening. The Nittany Lions fell to Harrisburg 3-1, and drop to 4-9 overall.

Harrisburg took the first set easily 25-17 with the help of a 10-point scoring streak. Abington rebounded in set two by scoring seventeen of their twenty-five points off monstrous kills from the underclassmen trio Nakiyah Green (Philadelphia, PA) who contributed 7, Katharine Costello (New Hope, PA) fired out 6 and Jenny McAnaney (Maple Glen, PA) forced 4.

The Nittany Lions tried to keep the same tempo in the third set, but fell to Harrisburg 25-15. Despite an intense battle up until the final point in set four, Abington fell short in a 30-28decision. Katie Costello led Abington in kills on the night with 18 while teammate Nakiyah Green finished with 12. Senior Cortney Schwar (Annandale, NJ) tied her season high with assists for a total of 42.

Up next Abington will host NEAC opponent Penn State Berks this Saturday beginning at 12:00pm. Followed by the Notre Dame of Maryland University at 4:00pm.
