ABINGTON, PA- The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team picked up their first NEAC win of the season on Saturday afternoon by defeating Penn State Berks 3-1. Later in the evening, the Nittany Lions dropped a close 3-2 battle to Notre Dame University of Maryland.
Abington got off to a sluggish start in set one by dropping to Penn State berks 25-13. Freshman Katharine Costello (New Hope, PA) helped light a spark for the Nittany Lions by firing out 24 of Abington's 38 kills. Abington went on to win 25-23, 25-21, and 25-20.
In game two, Abington came out hot 25-22 in set one, and 26-24 in set two, but couldn't continue their momentum. Abington fell in the following sets 25-12, 25-14, and 15-11. Jenny McAnaney (Maple Glen, PA) led Abington with 16 kills and 20 digs against the Gators. Senior Cortney Schwar (Annandale, NJ) totaled 63 assists on the day.
Up next the Nittany Lions will travel to Bryn Athyn on Wednesday September 245 for a 7:00pm match.
