ABINGTON, PA. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team hosted Centennial Conference power Swarthmore College, but couldn't defeat the Garnet in a 2-1 loss on Saturday afternoon. After the loss the Nittany Lions drop to 1-2 for the season.
Despite the loss, sophomore goalkeeper
Esteban Leon had a good outing between the sticks with five saves. Leon was put to work early in the first half when the Garnet striker took him on in a one-on-one situation, but the sophomore goalkeeper won the first battle by snuffing out his shot.
Unfortunately moments later Swarthmore forward Bless Tumushabe got the better of Leon to give the Garnet the 1-0 lead in the 21
st minute. Â The Nittany Lion's didn't get on the board until the 63
rd minute when
Jose Palomeque placed a perfect free kick to
Ed Worthington where the senior midfielder could slot it home.
The deadlock only lasted a few moments when the Garnet notched the game winning goal with a nice low shot the beat the keeper to the post.
Abington will hit the road for conference play when they travel to Lancaster Bible for a NEAC championship rematch on Friday September 13
th at 2:00 p.m.
