ABINGTON, PA- The Penn State Abington men's basketball team earned their second NEAC win this afternoon, by defeating SUNY Cobleskill in a 95-93 overtime thriller. With the win, the Nittany Lions improve to 7-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference.
Junior Pernell Ghee (Germantown, PA) led the way for Abington with a season high of 29 points, while collecting 7 rebounds. Ghee was unstoppable draining 11 of 13 field goals, shooting a red hot .846 field goal percentage.
The Nittany Lions went punch for punch with the fighting Tigers, where the score changed 11 times throughout the battle. Abington came out of the gate hot by shooting an impressive 6-10 (60%) from behind the arc. Three of those baskets came Junior Amir Hill (Philadelphia, PA) who finished with 17 points in today's performance, draining 5 of 7 three's.
With the score tied at 44-44 at the half, Cobleskill went on an early 6-0 run on Abington. But the Nittany Lions offense found a spark to go up 11-0 over the Tigers with six minutes remaining in the game. Cobleskill was able to collect five deep shots to tie the game up 84-84, and force Abington into their first overtime of the season.
Abington did their best shooting of the day in overtime, draining 100% of their field goals, 100% of their three pointers, and by going 2for2 on the free throw line. Sophomore Mohamed Mansaray (Philadelphia, PA) earned a season high of 7 baskets, and delivered a crucial three during overtime to give Abington a 6-0 jump over the Tigers.
With the game tied at 91 a piece, Ghee hit a step back jumper to put Abington up 93-91. The Tigers forced a foul on Isaac Kennon (Philadelphia, PA), before he drained two perfect free throw giving Abington a 95-91 cushion. Kennon finished the day with a season best of 10 points and 6 rebounds. Freshman Lexuus Fasce (Yonkers, NY) also earned a season best by contributing nine points to Abington's 95-93 victory.
Tomorrow Abington will close out the weekend by hosting NEAC opponent SUNY Poly at noon.
