ABINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State Abington men's basketball team hosted one of the top teams in the conference in Penn State Harrisburg, but the hosts coudn't pull off the upset in an 80-64 loss on Wednesday night. After the loss Abington falls to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Leading the charge for Abington was
Pernell Ghee with 22 points while senior
Bobby Olsen chipped in a season high 14 points.
Abington had the early momentum in the first half taking a 14-7 lead thanks to seven points from Ghee. A layup and a pair of threes for Harrisburg helped them take back the lead with just over 11 minutes left in the half. The hosts pulled ahead, but Harrisburg answered their shots, with Abington taking a short lead until the visitors would tie it back up. Harrisburg pulled ahead in the final two minutes of the half, but Abington clawed their way back with
Amir Hill draining his shot from downtown to give them the 34-28 lead at the break.Â
In the beginning of the second half both teams stayed tight, but Harrisburg pulled ahead thanks to a 16-6 run midway through the half. Back-to-back threes from Olsen and
Lexuus Fasce helped the Nittany Lions back into the game, but Harrisburg responded with four straight three-pointers to push their lead to double-digits. Harrisburg had the hot hand and kept the game out of reach by shooting 53 percent from the floor in the second half.
The Nittany Lions will look to rebound when they travel to Lancaster Bible this Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
