Abington Holds off Harrisburg, 74-68

ABINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State Abington women's basketball team survived a late scare from Penn State Harrisburg in a 74-68 win on Wednesday night. The Nittany Lions imrpove to 7-7 for the season and 5-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. 

Senior Laquana Nagbe drained 22 points to lead the Nittany Lions while Sydney Barrow chipped in seven assists and five rebounds. Junior Ashya Gaddy added 15 points eight boards and three asissts for the night. 

Abington came out hot in the first period hitting 58 percent of their shots, while Harrisburg struggled.  The hosts pounded the paint getting layups and earning tough fouls to send them to the stripe. Abington put themselves ahead of Harrisburg by double-digits by hitting their free-throws. 

The Nittany Lions smothered Harrisburg in the second quarter not allowing the visitors to get onto the board in until five minutes came off the clock. Harrisburg struggled to hit their shots and had to score points at hte free throw line. Abington pushed their lead to 42-22, but a pair of late three-balls for Harrisburg helped them get out of their slump before the break.

Harrisburg started out the second half on an 8-2 run and cut the lead to single digits with only four minutes off the clock in the third period. Abington struggled in the third quarter shooting only 29 percent, but they still stayed ahead of Harrisburg by 12 points at the end of the third quarter. 

In the fourth quarter Abington held a 10 point lead going into the final three minutes of action, but an 8-1 run for Harrisburg brought them to 71-68 with 47 seconds left on the clock. Abington held the visitors off by hitting clutch free-throws down the stretch.

Abington returns to action when they travel to Lancaster Bible College on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
