Women's Basketball Tripped up at Berks

READING, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team faced a tough test at Penn State Berks, but they couldn't come away with a win, in a 83-65 loss on Tuesday night. Abington drops to 7-9 for the season and 5-3 in the conference.

Despite the loss senior Sydney Barrow had a solid outing leading the Nittany Lions in points (20), assists (5) and steals (5), while senior Laquana Nagbe almost pulled off the double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds.

In the first period Abington came out hot shooting the ball making their first three shots and starting on a 6-0 run. Berks pushed back with 10 unanswered points before Abington could get another bucket.  Abington went ice cold shooting in the next five minutes of the period only hitting a free throw, while Berks pulled ahead 18-9 at the end of the quarter.

Berks pushed their lead to double digits, but Abington chipped away at the lead thanks to a pair of three-balls from Jyah Graham, and Barrow getting to the bucket but still down 24-21.  Again Abington went cold shooting down the stretch being outscored by Berks 13-5 and trailing 37-26 at the break.

A huge third quarter from Berks helped to push the hosts ahead even further.  Berks shot an impressive 65 percent from the field and were perfect from behind the three point line which helped them push their lead to 20 points before the end of the third period.

Abington outscored Berks in the fourth period, but they weren't able to get within striking distance to push the game into overtime.

The Nittany Lions will look to rebound when they host Gallaudet University on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
