Men's Basketball Wins Thriller over Morrisville State

MORRISVILLE, NY. - The Penn State Abington men's basketball team added to their win streak after a huge 71-69 overtime upset over Morrisville State on Friday night.  The Nittany Lions improved to 12-12 overall and 7-8 in the conference after their first win against Morrisville State since 2014.

Senior Rodeo Thompson led the Nittany Lions scoring 15 points and getting seven boards while freshman Brian Randolph III added 13 points and also scooped seven rebounds.

Both teams came out firing out of the gate, but the hosts took an early lead thanks to clutch shooting from behind the arc. The Mustangs took a double-digit lead over the Nittany Lions in the first 10 minutes of the half but the Nittany Lions didn't fold. Back-to-back three-balls from Randolph and Alex Salata brought the Nittany Lions back only down 32-27.  A pair of late buckets from Randolph helped the Nittany Lions stay within striking distance only down 41-36 at the half.

Abington put the pressure on the reining NEAC Champions early with a quick bucket and three ball from Lexuus Fasce.  Morrisville State held off the Nittany Lions until Randolph drained his jumpshot to give the Nittany Lions a 61-60 lead with only 4:35 left on the clock.  Over the next four minutes the lead changed eight times between the Nittany Lions and Mustangs, but Morrisville hit a late free throw to take a 67-65 lead with only six seconds remaining.  With only a second left on the clock Salata tied the game to force overtime getting his bucket off a layup.

In overtime the Nittany Lions defense clamped down on the Mustangs and held them scoreless from the field. Morrisville only scored two points off free throws, but couldn't hit a shot from the floor going 0-of-5. The Nittany Lions defense again helped them to their fourth straight victory after a rough start to their conference slate.

Abington will wrap up its season tomorrow when they face off against Cazenovia College tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
