Baseball Falls on Openining Day

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Penn State Abington baseball team traveled down to North Carolina to face off against Lynchburg College, but the Nittany Lions couldn't get past the Hornets in a 4-1 loss on Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets were on top early with two runs in the first inning, and added two more in the second to take a 4-0 lead.

Abington struggled to connect their swings only getting three hits off the Hornets pitching staff. The Nittany Lions broke through in the third inning when Jaden Himmelreich earned an RBI single in the third inning.

Abington threatened in the seventh inning with bases loaded and two outs, but the Nittany Lions couldn't get a run across the plate.  Again in the ninth inning the Nittany Lions had runners in scoring position, but the Hornets kept them off the board.

Abington will be back in action again tomorrow when they face off against Manhattanville at 10:00 a.m. and tournament host Methodist University at 1:00 p.m.
